Meds on Liens is a DBA of Family Pharmacy Services of Beverly Hills, Inc. — the independent pharmacy at 8314 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211. Same counter, same pharmacists, same phone number. The name is new; the shop is not.
Why a retail pharmacy ended up doing this
Because the patients kept turning up. A neighborhood pharmacy on the Wilshire corridor sees the same sequence over and over: someone comes in with a prescription written after an accident, no insurance or a deductible they cannot clear, a lawyer's business card in their pocket, and no way to pay for a two-week course of anything. Most pharmacies say sorry. The prescription goes unfilled, and everything downstream of it — the recovery, the treatment record, the case — gets worse.
Doing it properly meant learning a body of process that has nothing to do with pharmacy: letters of protection, lien ledgers, records affidavits, reduction negotiations, the difference between a civil lien and a WCAB lien. That process is most of what this site is about, because it is the part attorneys and surgery centers are actually evaluating when they decide whether to send someone.
What is different about a pharmacy doing this instead of a network
Most of the companies marketing pharmacy lien services to California law firms are not pharmacies. They are card programs and billing intermediaries: the firm enrols, the client gets a card, the fill happens at whichever chain counter is nearest, and the intermediary handles the paperwork. It is a real service and it scales in a way a single storefront never will.
What it cannot do is deliver a discharge bag to a surgery center in Encino at two o'clock, put a pharmacist on the phone with a patient who does not understand the taper, or give an attorney a reduction decision from the person with authority to make it. That is the trade, stated plainly: we cover a county rather than a country, and inside that county there is nobody between you and the counter.
Still a normal pharmacy
Injury and post-operative work is what this brand is for, but the shop has been filling ordinary prescriptions for the neighborhood for years and none of that changes. Insurance, Medicare Part D, cash, vaccines, over-the-counter, medication synchronization, and a pharmacist who will talk to you for as long as it takes.
