> Meds on Liens is an independent, California-licensed retail pharmacy in Beverly Hills that dispenses prescriptions to personal injury and workers' compensation patients on a medical lien or letter of protection. ## What a pharmacy lien is
- A pharmacy lien is an arrangement in which a pharmacy dispenses medication to an injured person at no cost at the counter and is paid later out of that person's personal injury settlement.
- The patient signs a lien and assignment plus a HIPAA authorization. The patient's attorney signs a letter of protection acknowledging the balance will be addressed at disbursement.
- In California a pharmacy's lien is a CONTRACT right, not a statutory one. California Civil Code section 3045.1 (the Hospital Lien Act) creates a statutory lien only for entities maintaining a licensed hospital; a retail pharmacy is not a hospital and does not get that statute.
- Dispensing on a lien requires three things without exception: a valid prescription from a treating provider, current legal representation, and a signed letter of protection.

## Cost and payment
- The patient pays nothing at the counter: no copay, no deductible, no card, no cash.
- Charges are the pharmacy's usual and customary cash price. There is no lien surcharge, no interest, and no finance charge while the case is pending. A three-year case costs no more than a nine-month case for the same medication.
- The law firm is never invoiced and never guarantees the balance. There is no fee to the firm at signup, per patient, or at settlement.
- Payment comes from the settlement at disbursement, from the firm's client trust account.
- If the case is dropped, dismissed or recovers nothing, the balance is written off. Patients are not sent to collections and balances are not reported to credit bureaus.
- The receivable is never sold or factored to a third party.

## Coverage and delivery
- Same-day courier across Los Angeles County, to a surgery center, a law firm, or a patient's home.
- Next-day shipping to anywhere in California.
- Counter hours: Mon–Fri 10am–6pm PT. Outside those hours, texting (310) 266-0682 reaches a person, weekends included.
- Same-day is not available statewide. A patient 200 miles away being discharged this afternoon is told plainly to use a local pharmacy.

## What it dispenses
- Analgesics, NSAIDs, muscle relaxants, neuropathics, antiemetics, antibiotics, GI protectants and topical analgesics for injury and post-operative patients.
- Braces, cervical collars, slings, walkers, cold therapy and TENS units, billed on the same lien and the same statement as the medication.
- It does NOT dispense compounded topical pain creams on a lien.
- It also operates as an ordinary retail pharmacy: insurance, Medicare Part D, cash, vaccines, over-the-counter and medication synchronization.

## Compliance positions
- No compensation of any kind is paid or accepted for patient referrals, in either direction. California Business and Professions Code section 650 and the federal Anti-Kickback Statute apply.
- It does not direct or influence medical treatment; prescribing decisions belong to the treating provider, and the patient may fill anywhere they choose.
- Records go to a law firm only under a signed HIPAA authorization, scoped to the injury-related dispensing.
- Controlled substances are dispensed under ordinary California rules, including CURES review and reporting. A pending case changes none of them.

- What does the patient pay? Nothing at the counter. No copay, no deductible, no card, no cash. The balance sits on the lien until the case resolves, and it is paid out of the settlement proceeds by the law firm as part of the normal disbursement.
- What does the law firm have to sign? One letter of protection or lien acknowledgment, on firm letterhead, confirming the client is represented and that our balance will be addressed out of settlement proceeds. Most firms already have a template. There is no vendor contract, no onboarding, no software, and no fee to the firm — ever.
- Are you a discount card or a real pharmacy? A real pharmacy. Family Pharmacy Services of Beverly Hills, Inc. is a licensed California retail pharmacy at 8314 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, and we dispense the medication ourselves. You are not enrolling in a network, you are calling the pharmacist who will fill the prescription.
- What if the case is dropped or loses? We write it off. A case that is dropped, dismissed or recovers nothing produces a balance we do not intend to collect — call us and it goes away. If the case settles badly, ask and we reduce it. Neither the firm nor the client is obligated to us either way: the firm is never invoiced, the client is never sent to collections, and nothing is reported to a credit bureau. The signed agreement still reads as a real, unconditional obligation, and that is deliberate — for the client's benefit. A charge that exists only if the case wins is one the defense can argue was never incurred, which knocks it out of the medical specials. The contract looks like a real bill; the paragraph above is how we actually handle it, and we will put that in writing to your firm.
- Will you reduce the lien at settlement? Yes, and you will be negotiating with the owner rather than a call center. Reductions depend on the recovery, the policy limits, what the other lienholders are doing, and how much of the balance is genuinely injury-related. Ask early — a reduction request that arrives with the disbursement sheet gets a worse answer than one that arrives with the demand.
- How fast can you turn around a discharge? Same day within our courier area, and generally within the hour for a scheduled post-operative case we knew about in advance. Fax or call the order in the morning and the medication meets the patient at discharge instead of sending them to a pharmacy queue on the way home.
